The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016…
...is awarded to Bob Dylan
“for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”.
Bob Dylan is an American composer, singer and musician and one of the most important singersongwriters of his time. He called his early songs “finger-pointing songs” aimed at what many people considered the wrongs of society. Two ot these early songs from the sixties are “Blowin' in the Wind” and “The Times They Are A-Changin'” .
Other of his widely known songs are “Like a Rolling Stone”, "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Lay Lady Lay" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"
This is the first time Svenska Akademien awards a musician the prize. As the permanent secretary Sara Danius says about Bob Dylan’s lyrics:
-It is the poetry for the ear, it should not be read quietly by yourself.
We have a book by Bob Dylan in the library, but to really appreciate his art you should listen to his songs!
