Welcome from our Principal
Dr. Heimeier has been the Principal for IEGS since August 2013. Her vision is to continue to develop the strong academic profile that IEGS has. “It is important for us at IEGS that each student, upon completion of their studies here, feels prepared for the next phase in his or her development as a young, independent adult”
Our Ethos
At IEGS every individual has the right to a safe, calm and quiet working environment where teachers can teach and students learn. Each individual is personally responsible for their role in the school environment, which entails being prepared to work at the right place and at the right time. IEGS places strong emphasis on group cohesion and individuals developing social competence within the group dynamic. Academically, we are very ambitious for all our students because we see IEGS as a stepping stone to the next stage in academic development.
A look Inside
IEGS is located in the heart of Södermalm with a strong academic and multicultural tradition, committed to helping students develop to their full potential. We currently offer four Swedish national programmes and the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, which all qualify students for university studies in Sweden or abroad. All courses, with the exception of Swedish, Civics A, Law and Modern Languages, are taught in English.
Quality Teaching at IEGS
Since its inception, IEGS has sought to bring English-speaking teachers of the very highest calibre to the school. Almost a quarter of the current teaching staff have doctorates (PhDs) in their field and the majority of staff have masters degrees and qualified teacher-status. The current staff of eighty is drawn from around the world including: Australia, Canada, France, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States and Sweden. Our staff strive to achieve that every student receives excellent pastoral care, develop relationships with peers and adults in a way that prepares them for life beyond and acquire a sense of responsibility and self-discipline.
Our Programs
We offer four national programmes with different specialisations as well as the IB Diploma Programme (DP). We have high academic ambitions for all our students - we see IEGS as a stepping stone to the next stage in their academic development. Our programmes prepare you for university studies in Sweden or abroad. All courses, with the exception of Swedish, Civics A, Law and Modern Languages, are taught in English.
Our Student Care Team
The student Care Team takes a proactive approach in supporting students. Their focus is early intervention. This involves collaboration with teachers, mentors and other key staff to enable a holistic focus on student health and wellbeing. The aim is to create a safe environment for students to thrive as lifelong learners.
They work to implement the school’s policies concerning student health and are usually the link to social agencies that work out of school to support the students.
